Windows Is Using 100% Disk Usage
High disk usage can make Windows feel extremely slow, cause applications to freeze, and increase loading times.
1. Find what is using the disk
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Select Processes and click the Disk column to sort applications by disk usage.
Close unnecessary applications that are heavily using your drive.
2. Restart Windows
Temporary Windows services or background processes can occasionally cause disk usage to spike.
Restart your PC and check Task Manager again.
3. Check Windows Update
Open:
Settings > Windows Update
Allow any pending updates to finish installing.
4. Check your drive health
Use your SSD manufacturer's software or another trusted SMART monitoring tool to verify that your drive is healthy.
5. Reduce unnecessary startup programs
Open:
Task Manager > Startup apps
Disable applications you do not need automatically launching with Windows.
If disk usage remains at 100% even while the PC is idle, the drive itself may need additional testing.
