What to Do if the Problem Continues After Reverting

EXM allows you to revert specific tweak-related behavior through the Fixes section, and Windows restore points can be used to roll back broader system changes.

If your problem continues after reverting an EXM optimization or using a restore point, the issue may not be caused by that specific EXM change.

Step 1: Restart Your PC

Some reverted settings do not fully refresh until Windows restarts.

Restart your PC before deciding whether the revert worked.

Step 2: Confirm You Reverted the Correct Change

If you applied several optimizations before the issue started, reverting one unrelated optimization may not resolve it.

Think about:

  • What changed immediately before the problem started

  • Which optimizations were applied

  • Whether drivers or Windows also updated

  • Whether another application was installed

Step 3: Use the Appropriate EXM Fix

The EXM Fixes section is designed to restore specific Windows functionality or behavior affected by tweaks.

Select the fix that matches the actual symptom rather than reverting unrelated settings.

Step 4: Check Whether the Issue Exists Outside EXM

The issue may instead be caused by:

  • Windows Update

  • GPU drivers

  • Network drivers

  • Game updates

  • Hardware instability

  • BIOS settings

  • Third-party optimization tools

  • Background applications

Do not assume EXM is responsible simply because EXM was used recently.

Step 5: Try a Restore Point From Before the Issue

If individual reverts do not help and you created a restore point before the issue began:

  1. Search Windows for Create a restore point.

  2. Open System Restore.

  3. Select a restore point created before the problem started.

  4. Review the changes.

  5. Complete the restore.

Windows restore points can roll back system settings, registry changes, drivers, and certain configuration changes.

Step 6: Test Before Reapplying Optimizations

After reverting or restoring:

  1. Restart Windows.

  2. Test the affected feature.

  3. Do not immediately reapply your previous tweaks.

This helps determine whether the issue was actually related to one of the reverted changes.

Step 7: Gather Information for Support

If the issue remains, note:

  • What originally changed

  • When the problem started

  • Which EXM optimizations were applied

  • Which fixes or reverts were attempted

  • Whether a restore point was used

  • Whether Windows or drivers recently updated

Providing this information prevents support from repeating troubleshooting you have already completed.
