Understanding Optimization Impact Badges
EXM uses Low, Medium, and High Impact badges to help you understand how significantly an optimization may affect your system.
These badges do not represent how much FPS an optimization will give you.
Instead, they indicate how aggressive the change is and how much it may affect Windows behavior, compatibility, power usage, networking, background services, or other system functions.
Low Impact
Low Impact optimizations make relatively small changes to your system.
These are generally designed to improve performance or responsiveness without significantly changing how Windows behaves.
Low Impact optimizations are usually suitable for most users.
They may include changes that:
Reduce unnecessary background activity
Adjust minor Windows settings
Improve responsiveness
Remove unnecessary visual or system overhead
Make small performance-related configuration changes
Low Impact does not mean the optimization is ineffective. Some smaller changes can still contribute to better overall system performance when combined with other optimizations.
Medium Impact
Medium Impact optimizations make more noticeable changes to your system.
These changes may affect Windows services, networking, power management, background processes, or other system behavior.
Medium Impact optimizations can provide stronger benefits in certain situations, but results may vary depending on your hardware and configuration.
They may include changes that:
Modify Windows services
Change power-management behavior
Adjust networking settings
Disable unnecessary background functionality
Modify system scheduling or performance behavior
Most users can safely use Medium Impact optimizations, but we recommend understanding what an optimization does before applying it.
High Impact
High Impact optimizations make aggressive or advanced changes to your system.
These changes may have a larger effect on:
System behavior
Compatibility
Power consumption
Networking
Windows features
Stability
Hardware behavior
Latency
High Impact optimizations should be applied with more caution.
These optimizations may provide benefits on certain systems, but they can also have a greater chance of causing unexpected behavior depending on your hardware, Windows configuration, drivers, or applications.
We recommend creating a restore point before applying High Impact optimizations.
Does High Impact Mean Better Performance?
No.
A High Impact badge does not mean an optimization will provide more FPS than a Low or Medium Impact optimization.
Impact refers to how significantly the optimization changes your system.
For example:
A Low Impact optimization may provide a measurable performance improvement while barely affecting Windows behavior.
A High Impact optimization may make a major system change while providing little benefit on your particular hardware.
Performance gains depend on your individual PC, hardware, drivers, games, and current Windows configuration.
Should I Apply Every High Impact Optimization?
Not necessarily.
Applying every aggressive optimization does not automatically result in the best performance.
In some cases, applying too many advanced tweaks can:
Reduce stability
Disable features you use
Increase temperatures or power consumption
Cause compatibility issues
Make troubleshooting more difficult
Provide no measurable improvement on your hardware
We recommend applying optimizations based on your system and performance goals rather than selecting them purely because they are marked High Impact.
Which Impact Level Should I Use?
For most users:
Low Impact
Recommended for users who want safer optimizations with minimal changes to normal Windows behavior.
Medium Impact
Recommended for users who want stronger optimization while still maintaining a balance between performance and compatibility.
High Impact
Recommended for advanced users who are comfortable making aggressive system changes and troubleshooting or reverting them if necessary.
You can combine optimizations from different impact levels depending on your goals.
Before Applying Advanced Optimizations
Before applying Medium or High Impact optimizations, we recommend:
Creating a Windows restore point.
Closing important applications.
Saving any unsaved work.
Reading the optimization description.
Applying changes gradually when possible.
Restarting your PC after major changes.
Testing your performance afterward.
This makes it easier to identify which change caused an issue if something behaves unexpectedly.
What If an Optimization Causes a Problem?
If you experience an issue after applying an optimization:
Revert the affected optimization in EXM if available.
Restart your PC.
Test your system again.
Revert other recently applied optimizations if necessary.
Use a Windows restore point if you cannot identify the affected setting.
If the issue continues, contact EXM Support and include the optimizations you applied before the problem started.

Optimization Impact badges are designed to help you understand the potential effect an optimization may have on your system.
They are not performance ratings.
A High Impact optimization is not automatically better than a Low Impact optimization, and the best configuration will vary from one PC to another.
