Understanding EXM’s Smart System Detection
Not every PC is built the same.
Different systems use different CPUs, GPUs, storage devices, network adapters, motherboards, and Windows configurations. Because of this, an optimization that is relevant to one PC may not be relevant to another.
EXM uses information about your system hardware to help provide optimizations that are relevant to your configuration.
Why System Detection Matters
PC optimization should not be treated as a one-size-fits-all process.
For example, a system with an NVIDIA GPU may require different GPU optimizations than a system using AMD or Intel graphics.
The same principle applies to components such as:
CPU
GPU
RAM
Storage
Network adapters
Motherboard
BIOS/UEFI
Windows configuration
EXM uses your detected hardware and system configuration when determining which hardware-related options are relevant to your PC.
Why Two PCs May Have Different Options
It is completely normal for two EXM users to see different available optimizations.
For example:
PC 1
AMD CPU
NVIDIA GPU
NVMe SSD
PC 2
Intel CPU
AMD GPU
SATA SSD
Because these computers use different hardware, some of the optimizations that apply to PC 1 may not apply to PC 2.
This does not necessarily mean that an optimization is missing or that EXM is not working correctly.
It may simply not be applicable to the detected hardware.
Hardware Optimizations
The Hardware Optimizations section contains tweaks related to components such as your:
CPU
GPU
Memory
Storage
Available options can vary depending on the hardware installed in your system.
For example, NVIDIA-specific optimizations would not be relevant to an AMD GPU, while certain CPU optimizations may only apply to supported processors or configurations.
Always review the description of an optimization before applying it so you understand what part of your system it affects.
BIOS Tuner Detection
EXM BIOS Tuner is even more dependent on your specific hardware configuration.
Available BIOS options can vary based on factors such as:
Motherboard manufacturer
Motherboard model
CPU
BIOS version
Firmware configuration
Supported BIOS features
Because motherboard manufacturers expose different settings, another EXM user may have BIOS Tuner options that do not appear on your system.
This is expected.
Why an Optimization May Not Appear
If you see an optimization in an EXM guide, video, screenshot, or on another user's PC but cannot find it on your own system, there are several possible reasons.
The optimization may:
Apply to different hardware
Require a supported component
Depend on your Windows configuration
Depend on your motherboard or BIOS
Have been changed in a newer EXM version
Not be relevant to your specific system
Before assuming something is missing, make sure you are running the latest version of EXM.
Does System Detection Mean Every Recommended Optimization Is Perfect for My PC?
No.
Hardware detection helps EXM determine which optimizations are relevant to your system, but every PC and workload is still different.
Performance can also be affected by:
Games being played
Windows version
Drivers
Background applications
Cooling
Power limits
Game settings
Resolution
Personal preference
Our recommended optimizations are intended to provide a strong starting point, but there is no single perfect configuration for every PC.
We recommend testing your system after making changes and keeping the configuration that works best for you.
Before Applying Optimizations
Before making significant system changes, we recommend:
Make sure Windows and your important drivers are functioning correctly.
Create a Windows restore point.
Apply optimizations you understand and actually need.
Restart your PC when required.
Test your normal games and applications afterward.
Revert individual changes if something does not work well with your system.
Avoid applying large numbers of unfamiliar advanced tweaks at once. Testing changes in smaller groups makes troubleshooting much easier if something unexpected occurs.
Performance Will Still Vary
System detection does not guarantee a specific FPS increase or performance improvement.
EXM helps optimize supported areas of your system, but your overall performance will still depend on your hardware and workload.
Instead of only looking at maximum FPS, consider testing:
Average FPS
1% lows
Frame times
Input responsiveness
System latency
Temperatures
CPU and GPU usage
Overall system stability
