If you want a fresh start or need to fix persistent system issues, reinstalling Windows is one of the most effective solutions.
This guide covers how to reinstall Windows with or without a USB, along with a few important things to do beforehand so you do not run into avoidable issues.
Before You Begin
Back up your data
This step is optional, but strongly recommended.
If you want to keep important files, back them up before starting by using:
An external drive such as a USB, HDD, or SSD
Cloud storage such as Google Drive or OneDrive
If you do not back up your data, Windows may still keep your previous installation in a Windows.old folder after reinstalling, but you should not rely on that as a backup.
Make sure Windows is activated
After reinstalling, Windows needs to be activated again.
In most cases, activation will happen automatically once you connect to the internet.
To check which version of Windows you are currently using:
Open Start
Go to Settings
Select System
Open About
Look under Windows specifications
Make sure you reinstall the same edition tied to your license, such as Home or Pro.
Downloading Windows
To reinstall Windows, you will need a Windows ISO file.
Recommended sources:
UUPDump (preferred)
OS.click
UUPDump is recommended because it allows you to:
Choose your Windows version
Include the latest updates
Include .NET Framework 3.5
This can save time after installation.
Important: Download Network Drivers First
Before reinstalling Windows, make sure you download your network drivers first.
After installation, your internet may not work until the correct network drivers are installed.
To avoid getting stuck offline:
Go to your motherboard or laptop manufacturer’s website
Download your network drivers
Save them to a USB drive or external storage device
If you skip this step, you may not be able to get online after reinstalling Windows.
