What Operating Systems Does EXM Support?
EXM is designed for Windows PCs and supports:
Windows 10
Windows 11
Custom Windows operating systems and modified Windows builds
You can use EXM on a standard Windows installation or a custom Windows configuration.
What Is exmOS?
EXM is specifically designed around exmOS, our custom Windows playbook.
exmOS provides the Windows configuration, system setup, and optimization baseline that EXM is designed to work best with.
While exmOS is not required to use EXM, it provides the environment our utility is primarily built, tested, and optimized around.
Can I Use EXM on a Custom Windows OS?
Yes.
EXM can be used on custom Windows operating systems and modified Windows installations.
However, custom Windows builds can vary significantly. Some may remove Windows components, services, registry entries, or system features that EXM expects to be available.
Because of this, certain EXM features may behave differently depending on how heavily the operating system has been modified.
Do I Need exmOS to Use EXM?
No.
You can use EXM on a normal Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation without exmOS.
However, if you want to use the Windows configuration EXM is specifically designed around, we recommend following the exmOS playbook.
Does EXM Support macOS?
No.
EXM is built specifically for Windows and relies on Windows-specific services, settings, drivers, registry configuration, and system components.
Does EXM Support Linux?
No.
Linux distributions are not currently supported.
Does EXM Support 32-bit Windows?
EXM is intended for modern 64-bit Windows systems.
If you are running an older or unusual Windows configuration, contact EXM Support if you are unsure about compatibility.
Does My PC Need High-End Hardware?
No.
EXM can be used on both lower-end and high-end Windows PCs.
Your hardware will affect which optimizations are relevant and how much performance improvement you may see, but you do not need a high-end gaming PC to use EXM.
