What to Do if EXM Gets Stuck While Applying Tweaks
If EXM appears to be stuck while applying optimizations, do not immediately force close the application.
Some optimizations can take longer than others depending on your hardware, Windows configuration, and the changes being applied.
Step 1: Give EXM Time to Finish
Wait a few moments and check whether the current optimization continues progressing.
Some system changes may take longer because they involve:
Windows services
Registry changes
Power settings
Network configuration
Driver-related settings
System commands
If EXM continues responding, allow the process to complete.
Step 2: Check Whether EXM Is Actually Frozen
Open Task Manager by pressing:
Ctrl + Shift + Esc
Find EXM and check whether Windows shows:
Not responding
If EXM is still responding and using CPU or other resources, it may still be processing the optimization.
Step 3: Avoid Repeatedly Clicking Apply
Do not repeatedly click the Apply button while an optimization is already processing.
This can make troubleshooting more difficult and may cause multiple actions to queue.
Allow the current process to complete first.
Step 4: Restart EXM if It Is Completely Unresponsive
If EXM remains completely unresponsive for an extended period:
Close EXM.
Restart your PC.
Open EXM again.
Run EXM as Administrator.
Retry the affected optimization.
Apply the optimization individually instead of applying a large group at once.
Step 5: Run EXM as Administrator
Some optimizations require elevated Windows permissions.
Close EXM, then:
Right-click EXM.
Select Run as administrator.
Retry the optimization.
Step 6: Try the Optimization Individually
If EXM became stuck while applying several optimizations at once, test them individually.
This can help identify whether one specific optimization is causing the issue.

Step 7: Check Windows Security or Antivirus Software
Security software can occasionally delay or block system-level changes.
Check whether Windows Security or a third-party antivirus displayed any notifications while EXM was applying optimizations.
If necessary, temporarily disable third-party security software while testing and re-enable it afterward.
Step 8: Close Other Optimization Tools
Avoid running multiple Windows optimization utilities at the same time.
Other applications may attempt to modify the same:
Registry values
Services
Power settings
Network settings
Windows components
Close other optimization software before retrying EXM.
Step 9: Restart Windows
If EXM repeatedly gets stuck on the same optimization, restart your PC before trying again.
A Windows component or service may be waiting for a restart before additional changes can be made.
Do Not Force Repeated Applications
If the same optimization repeatedly causes EXM to freeze or become stuck, stop attempting to apply it.
Repeatedly forcing the same system change is unlikely to resolve the underlying issue.
